Wrist Joint for Modular Joint System
Wrist for Traditional Lamination Socket
Using the same patent-pending multi-directional interlocking hexagonal ball interface, a corresponding wrist joint component was developed to provide adjustable mechanical positioning and secure locking of attached grips or tools across multiple axes. The assembly allows angular adjustment between 0 and 45 degrees around a full 360-degree central axis, after which the attached device may be rotated 360 degrees around the newly selected axis for additional positioning flexibility. A notched geometry permits extended articulation of up to approximately 70 degrees in one direction to enable closer positioning relative to the body. The wrist joint also includes a free-swing configuration that allows unrestricted rotation within the spherical socket when unlocked. This wrist component is compatible with both the Hexa-Flex Modular System and traditional lamination-style body-powered forearms, and it may be removed from either configuration for servicing or maintenance. The 35 mm hexagonal ball lamination-style wrist joint is currently designed to interface with 50 mm and 54 mm sockets. Future renditions are being developed for smaller sizes.

The Hexa-Flex Advantage
The Hexa-Flex Arm is a modular mechanical joint system featuring a patent-pending design that uses a hexagonal ball interface paired with an open-faced handle. This configuration allows adjustable multi-axis positioning through a set of internal locking pins that are disengaged via a pull-actuated control knob. When disengaged, the handle can be repositioned smoothly around the hexagonal ball interface. Releasing the control knob re-engages the locking pins to secure the forearm component at a selected angle. The control knob may also be held in an open position to allow a free-swinging configuration for mechanical flexibility.
The Hexa-Flex is engineered as a modular mechanical system that allows joints, forearm sections, adapters, and prehensor interfaces to be added or removed as needed. This modular architecture supports a wide range of mechanical configurations for attaching tools, grips, or other non-medical accessories for different use scenarios.
The Hexa-Flex is constructed with a focus on durability and low mass, using a 3D-printed sintered aluminum body with a DuraCoat™ surface finish for wear resistance and aesthetic customization. The assembly weighs approximately 9.7 ounces* and incorporates stainless steel hardware to enhance structural strength and resistance to environmental exposure, including incidental contact with moisture**, depending on configuration and use conditions.
* Shown Joint only. Does not include the weight of lightweight forearms or adapters.
** Fresh Water only. Salt water may cause oxidation if exposed for long periods of time.
